BIRD technology is a platform that was designed to assist organizations in their endeavors to become culturally responsive and compliant.
It follows 6 Major Steps:
Step 1 is the orientation:
This is where the organization is going to agree to what materials are within the BIRD. The next determination is what you are going to expect out of a BIRD, including what kind of understanding, language, etc.
Step 2 is an assessment:
The assessment has various levels and the assessments include an organizational self-study. The assessment is looking at trends and patterns within the organization based on what practices, policies are already in place. The assessment is based on content because there are several sections within organizational self-study.
The next level of assessment is an individual assessment. You can conduct a random sample or you can include every single person in the organization. This choice is based on organizational limitations and time constraints. Either option would include a random sample so we can have accurate data for all. Included inside of that individual assessment is an assessment of the environment. Cultural responsiveness and cultural practices include things that individuals observe and experience. In addition, it will assess how they see cultural responsiveness through their lens and through their own worldview, because they bring their worldview to the table as employees and make the body of the organization.
The next is an assessment that goes to the consumer or client. This can be done in a random sample. Having a random sample would be sufficient to have accurate data and research that would be valuable to the organization. This assessment is measuring their perception of equality at the organization and their experience, based on cultural experiences that they’ve had from the organization and media.
Another optional assessment would go to the community and this is based on the nature of the organization. The community assessment is similar to the consumer and client sample and it simply measures their perception, how they read and how they’re interacting with the organization.
Step 3 includes quantitative and qualitative reports:
These reports are automated and given to the organization based on the data. This entire process is automated, but within that automation process, there is a Step 4
Step 4 includes specific pathways:
These pathways that are created include learning pathways and other services that may be needed to support the alignment of cultural responsiveness within the organization. These pathways make Step 4 quite robust.
Step 4 is going to provide what you need to respond to the report so that you do not have to guess what you have to do to become culturally responsive as an organization. It is going to detail specific training plans for you and is going to detail specific experiences that the organization may need to have, beyond training. It may even suggest things like consulting services, accreditation services, various team-building activities, etc.
